School Partners : Participation Requirements

Participation in the SMART Partnership is not a legal process and no contract exists between the school and SMART. However, funds are required to participate and because of that there is a Letter of Commitment required that assures that the school agrees to formal participation according to the stated requirements including:

  • Providing top level administrative support for a three year commitment to the project
    • Board and Superintendent are aware of the project and agree to participate
  • Identifying an administrative liaison to the project
    • Each middle school Principal will meet with his/her project staff as necessary
    • Principal will communicate with Business/Community Partners as necessary
    • Principal will communicate with other participating school administrators as required to maintain collaboration
  • Selecting enthusiastic staff dedicated to innovation, problem based approaches and technology in education
  • Providing release time and expense reimbursement for staff participating in the project
    • Substitute teachers for approximately 4-5 development days during the project year
    • Mileage and meals to any project-wide meetings off site
    • Support for student visits to business/community partner locations and final presentations
  • Participation on project committees and in project promotion and publicity
  • Contributing curriculum information and lessons to the project database
  • Contributing student data (with appropriate releases and confidentiality assurances) for project
