Business/Community Partners : Participation Requirements

A business partner willing to participate in the SMART Partnership acknowledges that the successful implementation of this project requires a commitment of time and resources and accepts the following specific obligations to assure a successful educational experience for students in the partner middle school.

Business/community partner representatives agree to:

  • Meet with middle school staff as necessary to become acquainted with school curriculum requirements and standards, gain an awareness of the middle school setting/population and establish the operational relationship with the Principal and project teachers
  • Participate in follow-up meetings as necessary to develop specific problem based learning lesson
  • Make company/organization information available to students and host student visits to the business/community partner location for the purposes of collecting data and experience related to the problem based learning lesson
  • Serve as information, content and expert resources to students working on the identified problem throughout the course of the lesson
  • Attend the final student presentation of results and conclusions relative to the identified problem
  • Participate in annual statewide project meeting of all project participants
  • Participate in project evaluation activities required by the project evaluation plan
  • Participate in project promotion, publicity and occasionally on project committees as appropriate
  • Provide company/organization identity information (digital logo, photo of participating facility, company contact information, etc.) for use by the project and on the SMART Partnership web site
  • Assist school district to secure funds for project sustainability
