SMART Partnership - New Approach to Instruction and Learning

Welcome to the SMART Partnership web site and entry point for the Collaboration Hub.

What is the SMART Partnership?

The SMART Partnership is an innovative multi-state effort to improve the math and science achievement of middle school students using an authentic learning approach through business-education partnerships. The project, open to all schools in Indiana and Ohio, facilitates the participation of businesses and the community in local school districts to identify real life problems (in the workplace, the community, the world) that require math and science skills to solve. Students learn more effectively when they can see the math and science concepts in use and also learn that math and science is important in every aspect of their life including careers.

The project links all schools and businesses together via a project wide Internet database capable of sharing lessons, materials, video, images, state standards and other technology driven enhancements. Thus the SMART Partnership truly is a 21st Century mechanism for collaboration in education in the hopes of answering that age old student question "why do I have to learn this?"
